The Rotary Club of Lagos Central has continued its community impact drive with two initiatives targeting maternal health and youth development in the state.
In the first, club members visited the Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu Primary Healthcare Centre in Anikantamo, Lagos Island, where they distributed baby blankets, wipes, and diapers to pregnant women and new mothers.
About fifty women benefited from the exercise, which formed part of the club’s ongoing Maternal and Child Health programme — one of Rotary’s key focus areas.
Club President, Rotarian Folashade Oluwa-Giwa, noted that it was the organisation’s first outreach to that particular facility.
The centre’s Officer-in-Charge, Folarin Olubunmi, described the gesture as unexpected but deeply appreciated, expressing hope that the club would return with similar support in the future.
Separately, the club sponsored twenty-one young people to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA), held at The Citizen and Leadership Training School in Apapa.
The week-long programme drew over 400 participants and offered training in areas including computer literacy, handcrafts, cooking, and public speaking.
Youth Chair Rotarian Nat-Ogbebor Gloria said the sponsored candidates found the experience valuable and were already looking forward to next year’s edition.
The academy’s closing ceremony drew a strong turnout of dignitaries, including the District Governor and several past governors.
