The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, gave an Independence Day speech emphasising the resilience and determination of Nigerians.
He acknowledged the hardship Nigerians face while recommending a continued effort towards moving forward.
The speech balances the acknowledgement of past and current hardships with a celebration of the nation’s progress and national endurance since its independence.
According to the statement released on his social media platforms, cultural diversity is an essential strength that binds citizens together.
“Since October 1, 1960, our country has faced difficult times and celebrated moments of great progress. Through it all, we have shown resilience and determination.” he said.
He also added that we honour heritage through civic responsibility, linking the sacrifices of Nigeria’s founding leaders directly to the present generation’s responsibility to work collaboratively towards a stable future for the country’s youth.
“Let us honour the sacrifices of those who gave their best to build Nigeria by doing our part every day.” He said.
He closes the message with a reminder that the trajectory of the nation is determined by cooperation.
‘Nigeria belongs to all of us. Its future will be shaped by the choices we make and the work we are willing to do together.
“Happy 66th Independence Anniversary, Nigeria.”
