LAWMA dislodges street traders, clears Lagos public spaces

The Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, has intensified its enforcement against illegal street trading, dislodging traders occupying public spaces at Tafawa Balewa Square and the Costain Under Bridge/National Theatre axis.

The removal operation targeted unauthorised traders occupying road corridors and other public spaces, with the agency citing concerns over environmental cleanliness and obstruction of pedestrian and vehicular movement.

The Managing Director of LAWMA, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, said the enforcement was part of the agency’s sustained efforts to protect public spaces and ensure that roads, walkways and other areas are used for their intended purposes.

LAWMA says it will continue monitoring the affected areas to prevent the return of illegal trading activities and ensure compliance with established regulations.

He explained that the operation, carried out in collaboration with the Kick Against Indiscipline, targeted street trading activities obstructing pedestrian and vehicular movement and contributing to environmental nuisance along the affected corridors.
