The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has exposed a residential building that stored empty beverage bottles in Lagos.
The agency claims that the stored bottles which were carefully arranged in sacks, were to be distributed to manufacturers of counterfeit drinks.
In the video posted by the agency on Friday, October 23 via its official X handle, the Assistant Director of the agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, Kunle Ojo, revealed the building to be located at 322B Meiran Road, Agbado, Oke Odo.
The Assistant Director reported that the operation was based on credible intelligence and it led to the discovery and destruction of over 100 sacks of well stored bottles covered in tarpaulins.
”On getting here, we saw different kinds of bottles, stacked in this place. These are bottles, covered in Tapaulines. We have different kinds of bottles stacked in Tapaulines here and ready to be supplied to people that are counterfeiting”
Bottles of different products including Hennessy, Action Bitters, Royal Circle Premium Whiskey and Smirnoff in different sizes were discovered.
“We have bottles of different different sizes here 750cl and all the rest. Assorted drinks, like we have Action bitters here, this is Hennessy bottle. We have different kinds of bottles” he reported.
He also expressed disappointment in the act, while reiterating the commitment of the government towards ensuring the safety of Nigerians. Additionally he urged the public to report suspicious activities to aid the country’s betterment.
“This is not acceptable to the government and we are here to safeguard the health of the Nation and we’re calling on all well-meaning Nigerians. Please, when you see something taking place at your area, kindly notify the nearest NAFDAC office so that we can stop this menace. So that we can save our country from all these counterfeiters.”
