Super Falcons Team members lose $1220 to theft in Casablanca

Team members of the Nigerian women’s national football team have alleged that a total sum of $1220 has been stolen from them at Marriott hotel, Casablanca where they were lodged for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026.

The unofficial allegations were made in a series of posts on the Snapchat account of the team’s forward Esther Okoronkwo, who first claimed that $500 was stolen from her, and then later claimed the actual stolen amount to be $700 after proper calculation.

“Guys, I did my calculations wrong. They actually stole $700 not $500 USD” she posted.

Other team mates also had different amounts of their money stolen including Rashidat Ajibade, Joy Omewa, Osinachi Ohale and Halimatu Ayinde who had $200, $120, $10 and $100 USD stolen respectively.

The forward also took to her Snapchat account to claim that the housecleaning staff took the money while the the team left their room.

As at the time of the claims that were made, no official statement had been released by the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) .

It was also revealed that the staff off the hotel was questioned by the team mates over the stolen money, but they were met with unsatisfactory reports as the staff had no answers to give and also reportedly started being disrespectful.

However, this incident has not hindered the team ahead of their matches as they continue to prepare to extend their continental title from a 10-time to an 11-time WAFCON title.
