Lagos State Government has notified motorists and road users of expected traffic disruptions on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as a result of road works on Kara Bridge, scheduled to commence on Tuesday, 28th July.

The announcement was made in an official statement by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, signed by the Ministry’s Director of Public Affairs, Mrs Bolanle Ogunsola.

According to the statement, during the two-week project, the Federal Ministry of Works will commence the replacement of the bridge’s expansion point with the aim of enhancing the safety and durability of the Kara Bridge.

The four-lane carriageway will be restricted to two lanes along a 1.5-kilometre section of the bridge, with the aim of slowing down traffic around the Kara axis and enabling the progression of the project.

As a result of motorists seeking alternative routes to avoid delays, there would be high chances of congestion around the Fatgbems Turn, according to authorities. Although, traffic heading towards Ibadan beyond the Fatgbems Turn is expected to move with minimal disruption.

Motorists have been urged to pre-plan journeys, utilize alternative routes when available, follow traffic signs and cooperate with officials managing traffic in the duration of the period.

The Ministry expressed appreciatiom to the public for their understanding and cooperation, highlighting that the rehabilitation work is aimed at improving the safety and durability of the bridge, to ensure the safety of all road users.
