The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency reported that its operatives had contained a fire outbreak that occured at Purple Crown Hotel, Balogun Street, along Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos, on Saturday, 15th August.

In the released statement by Agency, the Permanent Secretary LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, revealed details of the incident, clarifying that although the fire affected a room on the first floor of the hotel, there were no casualties recorded.

According to the Permanent Secretary, LASEMA’s Tiger Squad, alongside the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police, got to the scene within 10 minutes of receiving the distress call at around 9:52 am. ‎

He also stated that preliminary investigations points to the fire being triggered by an electrical fault within the affected room and that the incident caused significant fire and smoke damage to a section of the building.

While highlighting that there was no loss of life or injury, he added that all the hotel guests and staff at the scene were safely moved to a designated muster point, after which a roll call was performed to account for the occupants.

“There was no loss of life and no injury recorded. All hotel guests and staff were safely evacuated from the building to the designated muster point,”

He commended the speed, professionalism and inter-agency collaboration displayed by LASEMA, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the police, declaring the reason for restricted access to the entire building to be precaution due to the volume of smoke and the extent of the fire damage, adding that operations will return to normal upon due clearance.

‎“The joint operation focused on containing the fire, preventing further spread to adjoining rooms, and ensuring the safety of both occupants and responders,

“Normal operations will only resume upon clearance from safety officials.” he stated.

He urged facility managers and business owners to prioritise regular electrical maintenance, emergency equipment and ensure proper staff training on emergency evacuation procedures.‎

The public is to report emergencies promptly through the Lagos State emergency toll-free lines: 112, 767 or 08000 112 112.‎
