NCS confirms Lagos as host choice for Inaugural National Intermediate Games 2026

The National Sports Commission (NCS) has confirmed that the reason why Lagos was made the host of the upcoming Inaugural National Intermediate Games is as result of the state’s grassroots sports development structure, sporting infrastructure and proven capacity to organise major sporting events.

The first edition of the National intermediate games which is to be hosted in Lagos from October 1- 15, 2026 is designed to bridge the existing gap between grassroots participation and elite sports by creating a structured pathway for athletes aged 15 to 18.

The Director-General of the NSC, Bukola Olopade, praised Lagos for its consistency in bridging the said gap in Nigerian sports.

“Not just in organising, but proactively, Lagos has created a system that brings school children to the top echelon of our sports, and it is only fitting that we bring the next level of growth in sports to Lagos to host and showcase that we can do things better than people observe.”

The NSC also added that selection of the state was also influenced by the concentration of sporting facilities, with the organizational capability of supporting a national multi-spoting event.
