Alimosho General Hospital Launches ₦250m Fundraiser for Medical Equipment

Alimosho General Hospital, Igando, Lagos, has launched a ₦250 million fundraising campaign to procure critical medical equipment and improve healthcare services for residents.

The campaign was announced on Tuesday at the hospital’s 2026 Donors’ Appreciation Day, themed “Your Giving, Their Hope and Healing.”

Medical Director Akinyele Akinlade said the initiative would expand the hospital’s services and improve access to treatment for vulnerable residents. Akinlade, who took over leadership in May, noted that recent clinical and operational reforms had been introduced to cope with growing patient numbers.

He said the hospital had acquired new equipment that enabled medical personnel to provide diagnostic services to bedridden patients within the wards.

“We also acquired a new echocardiogram machine, increasing monthly echo tests from 20 to approximately 100,” Akinlade said.

The hospital’s laboratory has also expanded to offer round-the-clock diagnostics, including HbA1c testing, sparing patients the cost of seeking such services at private facilities.

Other upgrades cited by Akinlade include new physiotherapy equipment, three automated delivery beds, and a newly established fast-track clinic. He added that renovation work has now covered more than 90 percent of the hospital’s suspended ceilings.

Rukayat Bakare, chair of the Alimosho and Friends Committee, said public-private partnerships remain essential to strengthening healthcare delivery, noting that government funding alone cannot meet the needs of Lagos’s expanding population.

She praised donors for backing emergency surgeries, supplying medicines, and helping indigent patients clear medical bills.

Bakare said the ₦250 million target would go toward several priority projects, including a ₦60 million automated tissue processor, a mammography machine, and upgraded X-ray equipment.

She also listed the planned expansion of the hospital’s dialysis centre to 20 beds as a key goal of the campaign.

Olushola Odunuga, commissioner at the Lagos State Health Service Commission, commended the hospital’s fundraising efforts and the impact of past donations, saying such support has helped patients who could not otherwise afford treatment.

He called on individuals and organisations to continue complementing government efforts by donating toward affordable, accessible healthcare.Want me to adjust the length, tone (more featur
