Lagos to Reconstruct Parkview, Banana Island Intersections

The Lagos State Government has announced plans to reconstruct major intersections at Parkview and Banana Island in Ikoyi, with the projects expected to be completed within six months.

The State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ meeting, saying the projects were aimed at easing persistent traffic congestion in the area. Osiyemi said construction would be carried out in phases around peak traffic periods to minimise disruption to residents, businesses and commuters.

He added that some administrative and technical issues, including the location of underground fibre-optic cables, water and electricity infrastructure, must be resolved before work begins.

The projects are being handled by Julius Berger, with the government engaging residents, traffic managers, utility providers and other stakeholders.

Chairman of the Parkview Residents Association, Ronke Sokefun, welcomed the project, noting that the existing 90-degree turn at the estate’s entrance and exit frequently causes traffic bottlenecks.

Similarly, Chairman of the Banana Island Association, Abidemi Shuneyin, said residents had engaged the state government for about a year over congestion around Banana Island, Parkview, Gerrard and Banana Road.

He expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for approving the project, saying it would improve movement within the Ikoyi axis.
