Bungalow catches fire in Itire, with one recorded casualty

Two adult men have been rescued from a fire outbreak at 43 Onitire Road, Smith Bus Stop, Itire, Lagos, with one sustaining burn injuries.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service says the emergency call was received at about 9:10 p.m, while firefighters arrived at 9:35 p.m. to commence rescue and firefighting operations.

The fire affected an eight-room bungalow and spread to a three-bedroom flat in an adjoining two-storey residential building, causing severe damage to the bungalow and minor damage to the neighbouring property.

Among those rescued was a 75-year-old wheelchair-bound man, while a 42-year-old man, who sustained burns while attempting to rescue him, was taken to Gbagada General Hospital by LASAMBUS.

Firefighters from Isolo, Sari and Bolade stations, alongside other emergency agencies, contained the blaze.

Authorities suspect negligence resulting in an electrical surge, although investigations are ongoing.

Residents are advised to maintain electrical installations and report emergencies through 112 or 767.
