Greenwell Initiative commissions solar -powered borehole in Okokomaiko, Lagos

The PanAfrican Capital Foundation, through its Greenwell Initiative has provided potable water access to residents of Cele Nica Community in Okokomaiko, Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos, following the commissioning of a solar-powered borehole and water treatment facility, to address the community’s water challenges.

Prior to the commissioned water access, residents relied on groundwater affected by metallic contaminants and other impurities, forcing many households to bear the financial strain of sourcing on alternatives.

The new facility, powered fully by solar energy uses an integrated treatment system to purify water before storage in a tank for supply.

The Executive Secretary of PAC Foundation, Omolola Ojo, addressed the initiative during the commissioning and said the project would contribute to healthier families, improved livelihoods and greater community resilience.

“Access to clean water is fundamental to human health, dignity and economic well-being. This project is more than a borehole; it is an investment in healthier families, improved livelihoods and a more resilient community,” she said.

According to Ojo, the initiative is also designed to reduce water-related illnesses and ease the financial burden associated with purchasing water.

Meanwhile, she declared that the newly commissioned project is the second community borehole intervention in Lagos State, while reiterating the Foundation’s commitment, stating that it would continue to support sustainable development initiatives in areas such as education, healthcare, environmental sustainability and economic empowerment.
