Residents and stakeholders in Lagos Island have taken part in an advocacy walk aimed at raising awareness and strengthening the fight against sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
The walk, held on Friday, formed part of activities to promote public awareness on the prevention of sexual and gender-based violence across Lagos State.
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), in collaboration with ROLAC, participated in the advocacy exercise, using the walk to engage residents and amplify calls for an end to sexual and gender-based violence.
The campaign comes as Lagos intensifies efforts to prevent SGBV and provide support for survivors. The state government said its DSVA handled 33,009 cases involving survivors of domestic and sexual violence between September 2021 and July 2026.
The figures include cases of rape, sexual harassment and defilement, highlighting the continued need for public education, early reporting and stronger community participation in preventing violence.
The Lagos Island advocacy walk is part of broader efforts by the state and stakeholders to encourage residents to speak out against abuse, support survivors and contribute to creating safer communities.
The organisers also urged residents to remain vigilant and play an active role in preventing sexual and gender-based violence within their communities.
