Lagos State has disputed claims against its government by pensioners following the 16 day ultimatum given to Sanwo-Olu regarding pension payment.
The Lagos State government, as a reaction to the threat of “mother of all protests,” released a statement disputing the accusations of the pensioners, claiming that the State applies a rather human centred approach towards retirees and pensioners.
“The Lagos State Government, under Governor Sanwo-Olu and Deputy Governor Hamzat, prioritizes the benefits, well being and health of its retirees who spent most of their active years in the service of the state.
“The statement also asserted that the current administration has performed excellently well in terms of pensioner prioritization
“The State has recorded what stands as the most outstanding performance on pension matters in the history of the State, delivering sustained measurable improvements in the welfare of retired public servants under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).”
“The Lagos State Pension Commission has paid N168.2 Billion (One hundred and sixty eight billion, two hundred million Naira) to over 48,000 retirees from 2007 till date,” it claimed.
The state government, through the statement also highlighted several other activities that have been directed towards benefiting pensioniers including the release of additional funding to clear outstanding backlogs, the introduction of welfare programs and the extension of wages by N25,000 for retirees under the Desired Benefit Scheme (DBS).
These demonstrations are said to reflect a sustained and deliberate commitment by the current administration to the welfare and dignity of the state’s retirees.
