The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has implored the University of Lagos to reactivate its school fees and course registration portal for a period of 48 hours on behalf of defaulting students, in order to enable them to register ahead of upcoming exams.
NANS President, Akinteye Babatunde Afeez described the action of the University, closing the portal on the 21st of June and worrisome.
He said this in consideration of the fact that the exams are set to commence on the 10th of August.
According to him, closing the portal with about 7 weeks left to exams puts students who are making efforts to pay their fees at a disadvantage, as they risk forfeiting the entire session.
The Association described the decision as harsh factoring in the country’s economic hardship and the efforts of both parents and students to meet financial requirements irrespective of the NELFUND.
They urged institutions to be more flexible.
In recognition of the institution’s authority, the association urged the management to be compassionate towards students by granting a final 48-hour window for affected students to pay their fees and register their courses.
“While we respect the university’s right to administer its academic processes, we appeal to the management to temper justice with mercy by reopening the portal for at least 48 hours.”
