The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday joined residents and government officials in Eputu Community, Ibeju-Lekki, for the July edition of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise aimed at promoting a cleaner and healthier environment.
She was accompanied by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Oluremi Hamzat; the Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab; members of the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO); the Ologunfayo of Ogunfayo, Oba Idogun Adewunmi Larrys; and the Executive Chairman of Ibeju-Lekki Local Government, Abdullahi Sesan Olowa, alongside other government officials, traditional rulers and residents.
Participants cleaned streets, public spaces and drainage channels across the community as part of efforts to promote proper waste management and environmental sustainability.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Sanwo-Olu urged residents to make environmental cleanliness a daily responsibility, stressing that collective action is essential to maintaining a healthy and safe environment. Olowa described the monthly sanitation exercise as part of the local government’s commitment to promoting environmental consciousness, encouraging responsible waste disposal and fostering community participation in keeping Ibeju-Lekki clean.
The council also commended residents, traditional leaders, sanitation personnel, volunteers, teachers, students and other stakeholders for participating in the exercise, urging them to sustain the cleanliness campaign beyond the monthly sanitation programme.
