LASEPA reopens sealed commercial establishments in Ikorodu, confirms improvement in compliance

The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), has reopened the previously sealed six iron and steel manufacturing companies in Odogunyan, Ikorodu. This is following the confirmation of improvement in the companies’ environmental compliance.

The released statement by LASEPA confirmed that the companies were reopened after a comprehensive fact-finding and compliance assessment conducted by the Agency, which led to the verification that the affected facilities had taken the required procedures to address the issues that resulted in the enforcement action.

The reopened facilities are Germini Steel Nigeria Limited, Top Steel Nigeria Limited, Pulkit Alloy Nigeria Limited, Landcraft Steel Nigeria Limited, Sunflag Steel Nigeria Limited, and African Steel Nigeria Limited.

Meanwhile, in a previous statement by LASEPA, it was revealed that on Monday, 27th July, the Agency sealed five hospitality establishments across Ikorodu, Lagos State, over continuous violations of environmental regulations and disregard for the directives of the Agency.

The affected establishments were sealed for defying environmental regulations and for failing to comply with directives issued by the Agency.

According to LASEPA, these violations continued in spite of repeated warnings, compliance notices, and opportunities to rectify the identified infractions.

The affected establishments include Docklands Hotels, Royal Tree Hotel & Suite, Rivera Hotel, and Medallion Hotel and Daval Spring Hotel.

The General Manager of LASEPA, Dr. Babatunde Ajayi, reaffirmed the Agency’s unwavering commitment to protecting public health and preserving the environment through strict enforcement of environmental laws across the state, adding that compliance with environmental regulations is a collective responsibility.

He urged business owners, facility operators, and residents to adopt environmentally responsible practices, to adhere to regulatory requirements, and cooperate with the Agency in its continuous efforts to build a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lagos.
